‘Someday’ Will Never Come

How many times have you heard people say, with a dreamy look on their face, “someday, I’ll do ______”, “I would love to do that… someday“, or some variant of these? It’s someday this, someday that. If only I earned a dollar every time I heard this…

The same thing happens when we’re talking about expatriation. Especially expatriation.

It’s not enough to simply say “yeah, I want to live over there someday,” or to “quit my job and start my own business someday.” If you wait for someday to start the process of becoming an expat, that day may never come.

You need to set an actual date to make it happen

Draw a red circle over a date on your calendar if you need to.

Your burning desire is the single most important catalyst that moves you through all the steps you need to take to become a location independent expat. Frankly, if you don’t have the desire, it won’t happen.

Otherwise you can have the desire but you have no idea where to start. Or you might have all the information you need but are suffering from analysis paralysis. If that describes you, then you’ve come to the right website. We’re here to help you through the process.

For starters, open the right sidebar (click the icon Screen Shot 2016-06-18 at 1.39.45 PMsitting on the upper right hand side of this page), OR scroll to the bottom of the page, and enter your email address to obtain a Free Expatriation Checklist that I personally used to successfully become an expat.

Keep in mind that at some points through your journey towards becoming an expat, your desire may wax and wane.

You might even get cold feet

This is normal.

One day you’ll be gung-ho knocking ten items off your checklist, finishing your day with a glass of scotch and dreaming about having foursomes at a bad ass penthouse in a far away la-la land.

The next day, you’ll be standing in the kitchen in your jammies watching your eggs boil and suddenly you freak out. “Oh fuck, what the hell am I thinking? Am I about to make the stupidest mistake in my life?

I even called up a friend and asked to meet for coffee. When we sat down over a coffee, I straight up told him that I’m freaking out. After a three hour chat, I calmed down and kept doing what I was doing. So don’t forget that moments like these are going to test your resolve.

  • Great Blog Bill! I’ve enjoyed and learned a lot in reading your journey and this post especially reminded me of a favorite Credence song titled the same. – Onto

“Well, I’m here to tell you now each and ev’ry mother’s son
You better learn it fast; you better learn it young,
    ‘Cause, “Someday” Never Comes.”
